The International Cycling Union (UCI) has lifted all restrictions on Belarusian athletes and eased those on Russian athletes. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Interfax-Ukraine.
This decision was made at a meeting of the International Cycling Union’s Executive Committee, which took place from June 2 to 4 in Desenzano del Garda, in northern Italy.
“First, and in accordance with the recommendation of the IOC Executive Board dated May 7, 2026, Belarus is excluded from the scope of the special regulations. Thus, the participation of Belarusian national teams and athletes in events on the UCI international calendar, including the UCI World Cups and UCI World Championships, is permitted, and all restrictions regarding protocol, symbols, and emblems are lifted,” the UCI explained.
At the same time, sanctions against Russians have been eased. Specifically, they are no longer required to apply for Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) status to participate in UCI International Calendar events. Additionally, riders with AIN status are now permitted to compete in team events. Russian national symbols remain banned.
The decision to impose restrictions on athletes from Russia and Belarus was made in February 2022 in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with the support of the Belarusian government.
