A large-scale power outage has occurred in several regions of the Indonesian island of Bali.

Reuters writes about it, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to the state-owned company Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the power supply was cut off on May 2 at 16:00 local time, when it was 11:00 in Kyiv.

Footage posted on social media shows the streets plunged into darkness.

Bali Airport General Manager Ahmad Syawgy Shahab said that the island’s airport was also without power, but it continued to operate flights using backup generators, although several planes were delayed.

Within hours, power was restored to most of the island. Infrastructure, government offices and hotels were the first to be powered up.

What caused the power outage?

President Prabowo’s spokesman Subianto Prasetyo Hadi said the power outage was caused by damage to the submarine cables connecting Bali’s power grid to the island of Java.

According to the island’s statistics bureau, Bali is Indonesia’s main tourist destination, with 6.3 million foreign tourists visiting in 2024.
