28 April 03:40
In the Lviv region, law enforcement officials uncovered a group that gained access to other people’s Roblox gaming accounts and sold them on Russian websites. According to the investigation, the scheme was organized by a 19-year-old resident of Drohobych, who recruited two accomplices aged 21 and 22. Preliminary estimates suggest that profits from the sale of the stolen accounts could have reached nearly 10 million hryvnias.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the investigation, from October 2025 to January 2026, the suspects checked over 610,000 Roblox user accounts and selected those with the highest value—those containing virtual currency or rare in-game items.
How the scheme worked
Roblox is a popular online platform where users create games, communicate, and purchase virtual items using the platform’s internal currency. For some players, these profiles have not only entertainment value but also financial value, as accounts may contain purchased items, rare digital goods, or in-game currency.
According to investigators, the group members used stolen cookies. These are technical data that help a website “remember” a user. In illegal schemes, such files can be used to access an account without entering a password.
The suspects verified the accounts they gained access to using a special program. It showed whether the account could be opened and what valuable resources were inside. They primarily searched for profiles containing virtual currency or rare in-game items.
Over 610,000 accounts were checked
According to law enforcement, from October 2025 to January 2026, the suspects checked over 610,000 Roblox accounts.
During the investigation, law enforcement officials discovered 357 files containing selected accounts that held the most valuable digital resources. These files were subsequently sold on Russian platforms, with payments received via cryptocurrency wallets.
It has been preliminarily established that over the entire period of its activity, the group may have earned nearly 10 million UAH.

What charges were brought against the group members

They are charged with:
- theft committed by a group of persons acting in concert;

This falls under Part 4 of Article 185 and Part 5 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Separately, law enforcement officials reported that substances resembling cannabis were found in the possession of a 44-year-old acquaintance of the suspects. He was detained, and the seized substances are to be sent for analysis. The man was notified of the charges against him under Part 1 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
How users can protect their Roblox accounts
Law enforcement officials repeatedly advise users to follow basic cybersecurity rules:
- do not click on suspicious links;
- do not enter your password on third-party websites;
- do not install unknown programs for “free currency” or “rare items”;
- enable two-factor authentication;
- use a strong, unique password;
- Regularly check for active sessions in your account.
Parents of children who play Roblox should be especially vigilant, as children’s and teenagers’ accounts are often targeted by cybercriminals.
