The Naftogaz Group has secured long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification capacity in Europe for the first time.

Thiswas announcedby Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretskyi, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The agreement covers the LNG terminal in Klaipėda (Lithuania) for the period from 2033 to 2044. The terminal operator, KN Energies, successfully completed the relevant allocation procedure.

“For Ukraine, this is an important step in diversifying gas supply sources and routes. Previously, such operations were carried out in partnership with other companies. Now we are moving to a new level of cooperation and supply planning,” Koretsky wrote.

According to him, such decisions are of strategic importance for Ukraine’s energy security, expand our access to the global LNG market, and strengthen the long-term stability of gas supplies.

Naftogaz has become one of five customers that have reserved long-term capacity at the terminal. Along with Naftogaz, Equinor, Ignitis, Latvenergo, and Gasum have done so.

“I thank the Government of Ukraine and our Lithuanian partners for their cooperation and trust. This is another important step toward strengthening the energy security of Ukraine and the entire European region,” Koretsky wrote.

As previously reported by the chairman of the board of Naftogaz, Serhiy Koretskyi, the Naftogaz Group has reached an agreement in principle with the committee of holders of €1.2 billion in Eurobonds to extend their maturity dates to 2032–2033.

According to him, the completion of the restructuring should strengthen the group’s financial stability and provide more opportunities to direct resources toward infrastructure restoration and preparations for the heating season.

Koretsky noted that in 2025 alone, the Russians carried out 229 strikes on Naftogaz facilities—more than in the previous three years of full-scale war combined. Since the beginning of 2026, he said, the company has already suffered more than 170 attacks.

Due to the loss of its own gas production, Naftogaz is forced to compensate for it with imported supplies, which affects the group’s financial performance.

As reported, in February, the Naftogaz group imported American liquefied natural gas into Ukraine for the first time via a terminal in the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda.

Also in February, the Naftogaz group, in partnership with TotalEnergies, secured the supply of liquefied natural gas from the U.S. via the Deutsche ReGas LNG terminal, located on the island of Rügen (Germany) in the Baltic Sea.
