Germany will allocate an additional $200 million (approximately 172 million euros) for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadefuhl said on the eve of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on Wednesday, December 3, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.
These funds will be allocated under the PURL program, which has been in place since the summer of 2025 by agreement between NATO and US President Donald Trump.
After the PURL mechanism was launched, Germany has already financed a $500 million arms package in October. Two new PURL packages totaling $1 billion will be financed by Germany together with the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland.
In addition to the aforementioned $200 million, Germany will transfer 25 million euros to the NATO fund so that “Ukrainian soldiers are provided with the necessary winter equipment and receive sufficient medical care right now, in the conditions of ice and snow at the front.”
On September 17, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that his country had already received more than $2 billion under the PURL, and by the end of the year hopes to receive weapons worth $3-3.5 billion. This money was used to purchase, among other things, missiles for the Patriot air defense system and the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system.
