The full integration of Ukraine’s and the European Union’s energy markets could take place as early as 2028.

This was stated by Andriy Gerus, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing, and Utilities, in an interview with the Verkhovna Rada press service, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the parliamentarian, following the signing of Law No. 4834-IX on the integration of Ukraine’s and the EU’s energy markets, the phase of its practical implementation is beginning.

“I think implementation will take place in 2026–2027. We hope that full market coupling (a mechanism for integrating national markets into a single space — ed.) will take place as early as 2028. This will mean the integration of our energy market with the European one. Then the law will take effect in practice,” said Gerus.

He also emphasized that the law generally complies with European rules governing the electricity market, although some of its provisions provide for a transition period and phased implementation.

According to the head of the parliamentary committee, integration will open up access to the common European market for Ukrainian energy companies and create new opportunities for electricity trading.
