Russia’s threats to strike Kyiv: China issues a statement
26 May 15:34
Beijing responded to Moscow’s new threats of massive strikes on Kyiv with its usual vague statements. According to RBC-Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made these remarks during a press briefing, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
What Beijing said
“China’s position on the Ukrainian crisis is consistent and clear. We believe that only dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way to resolve the conflict,” Mao Ning stated.
China once again called on the “relevant parties” to jointly halt the escalation and return to the negotiating table.
“We call on the relevant parties to work together to stop the escalation as soon as possible and create conditions for the resumption of dialogue and negotiations,” the spokesperson added.
When asked whether Beijing would evacuate its diplomats from Kyiv, the spokesperson did not respond.
China’s Position in This War
Beijing officially declares neutrality and avoids naming the aggressor and the victim. China does not participate in any international initiatives aimed at stopping the hostilities.
Chinese officials regularly call for “de-escalation and dialogue.” Despite this, Russia—Beijing’s closest ally—ignores such calls and continues to escalate its aggression. China pretends not to notice this disregard.
Meanwhile, Russia is threatening new massive strikes on Kyiv. The Center for Strategic and Policy Studies under the National Security and Defense Council has interpreted Moscow’s statements as an official announcement of further terror against the civilian population.
