Strawberry price crash: prices have dropped by nearly 100 hryvnias in a week
15 May 09:48
ANALYSIS
Earlier this week, the price of a kilogram of strawberries at markets in the capital was quite high, reaching 300 UAH. However, the mass harvest at Ukrainian farms and favorable weather conditions have had an impact: by the end of the week, the price at those same markets had dropped to 190 UAH/kg, according to
In other words, in some places, the price difference over the past seven days has reached 100 UAH per kilogram.
This is due to the fact that expensive imported and greenhouse-grown produce has been replaced by field-grown berries from the southern regions and Zakarpattia.
How much do strawberries cost in Ukraine on May 15
As of May 15, 2026, a sharp drop in strawberry prices has been recorded in the markets of Ukraine’s regional centers.
In Kyiv, at the “Stolychny” market, high-quality “Alba” and “Asia” strawberries are selling for an average of 180–220 UAH/kg.
In Lviv, at the “Shuvar” market, the average price is about 200 UAH/kg.
In Odesa, at wholesale markets, particularly at the “Pochatok” market, strawberries can be found for approximately 190 UAH/kg.

Where strawberries are still more expensive
In retail in Dnipro and Vinnytsia, prices are still slightly higher than wholesale prices and range from 230 to 250 UAH.
While prices in retail markets have stabilized at 190–220 UAH/kg, prices in supermarket chains (Silpo, Auchan, Novus) remain high—ranging from 299 to 379 UAH/kg.

How much do strawberries cost from producers
Prices are significantly lower directly from producers. There are already many wholesale offers on the Ukrainian market ranging from 110–140 UAH/kg.
However, such prices are usually available for large orders—from 500 kg to 1 ton. The cost depends on the purchase volume, region, variety, quality of the berries, and logistics.
For the average consumer, prices in retail markets remain higher, but it is precisely the drop in wholesale prices that is gradually putting pressure on retail prices.
What will happen to prices by the end of May
Market operators predict that strawberry prices will continue to fall through the end of May. It is expected that once the weather warms up completely, open-field strawberries from central Ukraine will flood the market.
There are still plenty of greenhouse strawberries on the market, but as the harvest area expands, prices may continue to fall.
Most likely, the biggest price drop will be seen in markets and the wholesale segment. Prices in supermarkets may fall more slowly.
As reported by
Agricultural market expert and coordinator of the EastFruit Weekly Ukraine project, Alexander Khorev, in an exclusive comment to
The ripening rate of the berries directly depends on the number of sunny days and air temperature, particularly at night. If stable, warm, and sunny weather sets in soon, a massive influx of strawberries onto the market could begin very quickly.
“If sunny, warm weather sets in, berries will hit the market in large quantities very soon, and prices will likely fall gradually, or perhaps even sharply,” Khorev predicts.
However, a significant drop in prices compared to last year should not be expected. According to the expert, producers are not reporting a significant increase in the area or volume of commercial strawberry cultivation. Therefore, even under favorable weather conditions, prices may only return to last season’s levels but are unlikely to be significantly lower.
It should be noted that last year, average strawberry prices during the season ranged from 80–100 UAH/kg for wholesale purchases to 130–150 UAH/kg in retail.
