A patient died at the clinic as a result of a drone attack
Officials at the private clinic “Medicom” have been served with a notice of suspicion of document forgery. This was reported on social media by attorney Oleksiy Shevchuk, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Medicom’s cynicism knows no bounds. An expert examination has established that officials at the “Medicom” clinic forged a receipt stating that the deceased young man had been familiarized with safety rules and the need to take shelter during an alarm. Although there was no shelter at all. “Medicom,” the notice of suspicion has already been signed,” the lawyer reported.
Context
On the night of January 5, the inpatient ward of the “Medicom” clinic at 9 Obolonska Embankment in Kyiv sustained significant damage after being struck by a drone, and a patient died. The strike occurred at 2:40 a.m. At the time of the attack, there were 26 patients in the ward.
At the time, the clinic issued the following statement:
“All victims have been evacuated to other medical centers. The family of the deceased patient is being provided with support.
The hospital building and medical equipment sustained significant damage. We have begun assessing the condition of the premises and plan to resume operations as soon as possible, with strict adherence to all safety requirements. (…) We are in constant contact with emergency services and relevant authorities. The safety of patients and staff remains our absolute priority.”
The Office of the Prosecutor General, however, announced the initiation of criminal proceedings regarding war crimes (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and provided further details about the victims.
“A 30-year-old patient at the medical facility died. Three other people were injured. Two women, aged 97 and 77, suffered from smoke inhalation and were hospitalized at other medical facilities. A 42-year-old woman received medical care on site,” the Office of the Prosecutor General stated.
Statement from the deceased’s relatives
Natalia Smashna, the wife of the 30-year-old patient who died as a result of a Russian UAV striking the “Medicom” clinic, stated that she would demand compensation from the medical facility. She accused the staff of negligence, which led to her husband’s death.
According to Natalia, her husband, Dmytro, was being treated for pneumonia at the Medikom hospital.
“He entrusted his life to the doctors who were supposed to cure him. I was waiting for him at home with our small child. That night, they should have at least woken my husband up and told him to take shelter, but they didn’t.
The doctors were negligent, and that negligence cut his life short in an instant. That indifference ruined everything,” the woman said.
