Trump’s $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times: details of defamation allegations

US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against The New York Times and its four journalists. According to court documents, Trump accuses the newspaper of defamation and demands $15 billion in damages.
The lawsuit, filed in a US federal court in Florida, concerns several articles and one book written by two journalists of the publication and published ahead of the 2024 elections. The document states that these publications are
“part of The New York Times’ longstanding pattern of intentional and malicious defamation of President Trump. Defendants published these statements in reckless disregard of the falsity of the statements and/or with reckless disregard of their truth or falsity,”
– the lawsuit says.

Trump’s accusations against The New York Times
In a lengthy post on social media, the president detailed his claims against the publication. Trump characterized The New York Times as “one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of the country” that has become “a virtual mouthpiece for the radical left-wing Democratic Party.”
“I view this as the largest illegal campaign contribution EVER,”
– said the US president, adding that the newspaper’s support for Kamala Harris “was actually placed front and center on the front page of The New York Times, which was unheard of before!”
Trump accused the publication of “decades of lying” about him, his family, his business, the America First movement, MAGA, and the country as a whole. According to him, the newspaper allowed itself to “freely lie, defame and slander” him “for far too long.”
“I am Proud to hold this once respected ‘rag’ accountable, as we do with fake news networks,”
– he emphasized.
According to Trump, the New York Times’ slander will now stop.
This is not Trump’s first legal dispute with the media. In July, he filed a $10 billion lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and media mogul Rupert Murdoch after an article about his ties to financier Jeffrey Epstein was published.
