The Danish company LEGO A/S has launched a legal battle against a Ukrainian entrepreneur who was selling building sets through an online store. The manufacturer of the legendary toys accuses the sole proprietor of piracy, demanding that the counterfeit goods be destroyed and that substantial compensation be paid. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Dev.ua.

The manufacturer accuses the entrepreneur of infringing intellectual property rights, demands the seizure and destruction of the counterfeit goods, and seeks substantial monetary compensation.

The Kyiv Commercial Court, in a ruling dated June 11, 2026, has already opened proceedings in this case.

What Happened and Which Models Are Affected

LEGO’s lawyers discovered that the Ukrainian online store podarok.in.ua, operated by a sole proprietor, was selling large quantities of toy construction sets that allegedly completely copied the original LEGO TECHNIC series.

Furthermore, the counterfeits were distributed in boxes that allegedly illegally replicate the unique and copyright-protected artistic design of LEGO packaging.

The lawsuit involves five top-of-the-line and most expensive models from the automotive series:

  • Lamborghini Sian Building Set
  • Porsche GT3 RS Building Set
  • Bugatti Chiron Building Set
  • Porsche 911 RSR Building Set
  • Land Rover Defender model kit

In addition to replicating the models themselves, the counterfeits were distributed in packaging that illegally copied the unique and copyright-protected artistic design of the Danish brand’s original products.

The complaint lists five top-of-the-line and most expensive models from the automotive series, including the Porsche GT3 RS, Bugatti Chiron, Porsche 911 RSR, Land Rover Defender, and Lamborghini Sian building sets.

Lego’s Financial Claims

Lego is asking the Kyiv court to completely prohibit the entrepreneur from using the LEGO TECHNIC box designs on the website and to halt further sales of these toys.

The plaintiff also insists on the complete seizure from the sole proprietor and subsequent disposal of all existing copies of the aforementioned construction sets.

From a financial standpoint, Lego is seeking compensation in the amount of 1,164,800 hryvnias from the entrepreneur. Additionally, the plaintiff requests that a 10% penalty of 116,480 hryvnias be imposed on the defendant, which, if the claim is granted, will be remitted directly to the state budget of Ukraine.

The court has currently ruled to hear the case under the rules of general civil proceedings. The first pretrial hearing in the case is scheduled for August 13, 2026. The Ukrainian entrepreneur has 15 days from the date of service of the ruling to file a response to the complaint.

If the defendant does not exercise this right, the court will consider the case solely on the basis of the materials and evidence provided by Lego.
