Trump: “A good conversation”
Donald Trump confirmed the conversation with Putin to reporters in the Oval Office.
“We had a good conversation; I’ve known him for a long time,” he said.
According to the U.S. president, it was he who proposed a “short-term ceasefire” in the war in Ukraine to Putin.
“I think he might go for it,” Trump added.
The conversation, he said, focused primarily on the war in Ukraine.
Trump also reported that Putin expressed a willingness to help resolve the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear program, but the U.S. president replied: “I would prefer that you focus on ending the war in Ukraine. I said—before you help me, I want to end your war.”
The previous phone call between Putin and Trump took place on December 28, 2025.
