Rada increases defence spending by UAH 500 billion

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted amendments to the state budget for 2024. Defence spending will increase by UAH 495 billion. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram.

According to him, draft law No. 11417 was supported by 298 MPs.

As MP Iryna Gerashchenko clarified, the law adjusted the expenditure side of the state budget by UAH 434.6 billion

“This draft law proposes

  • adjust the expenditure side of the state budget by UAH 434 billion 603.5 million, increase expenditures under certain budget programmes by UAH 500 billion 311.9 million (including UAH 495 billion 311.9 million for the security and defence sector) and reduce expenditures and loans by UAH 65 billion 708.4 million;
  • to allow the CMU to allocate loans for the implementation of investment projects by decision of the Cabinet of Ministers and in agreement with the relevant lender.

It is also proposed to

  • to allocate funds from the enterprise “Ukraine Tourist” and the “Ukrainian Institute of Intellectual Property” for the needs of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
  • allocate the remaining budget funds for restoration, construction, modernisation, and arrangement.

Thus, total state budget expenditures will amount to UAH 3 trillion 737 billion, while revenues will amount to UAH 1 trillion 911 billion.

Defence spending was the main priority of the 2024 budget. In the current budget, they amounted to UAH 1 trillion 693 billion.
