Russia was planning an attack on the German drone manufacturer Donaustahl

In Germany, law enforcement officials foiled an assassination attempt on Stefan Tumann, the head of the German startup Donaustahl, which supplies reconnaissance and kamikaze drones to Ukraine. According to the German publication Die Zeit, Russia is most likely behind the plot, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Two suspects—a Ukrainian man and a Romanian woman—had been monitoring the German drone manufacturer for several months. The man was detained in Spain, and the woman in Germany,” the publication writes.
The publication noted that a warning about a potentially high threat to Tuman was received from a foreign intelligence service in December 2025.
In March, *Spiegel* reported on the arrest of suspected Russian spies—Serhiy N., a Ukrainian citizen, and Alla S., a Romanian citizen. The man was arrested in Spain, and the woman in Germany itself.
“According to the investigation, Sergei N. began gathering information in December 2025 about a German company that manufactures drones (the company’s name was not disclosed at the time). In particular, he secretly photographed the company’s facilities. As for Alla S., she had likely been surveilling the home of a businessman (whose name was also not disclosed) since March 2026 in order to facilitate an attack on or the assassination of this businessman,” the publication states.
The German prosecutor’s office has charged both detainees with working for foreign intelligence services.
Stefan Tuman himself is currently under heavy guard. On LinkedIn, he recently informed his community that “for certain reasons” he cannot participate in exhibitions and promised to “see everyone soon in other formats.”

“A New Level of Escalation in the Conflict on Russia’s Part”
Die Zeit noted that the case of Stefan Tuman is not the only one causing concern among security services. They warn that Germany is facing a “new level of escalation of the conflict on Russia’s part.”
According to Die Zeit, another arms company may be in the crosshairs of Russian intelligence services.
The publication also recalled the events of 2024, when U.S. intelligence reported that the Russian government had planned to assassinate the CEO of a major German conglomerate that manufactured artillery shells and military equipment for Ukraine. CNN reported at the time that the individual in question was Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger.
