17 July 23:59
On July 17, Russian troops carried out a large-scale attack on production facilities belonging to the Naftogaz Group in the Kharkiv, Poltava, and Sumy regions. The strikes caused fires and significant damage, forcing the facilities to temporarily suspend operations.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a statement by Serhiy Fedorenko, acting chairman of Naftogaz of Ukraine, and official company information.
Russia attacked gas production facilities in three regions
According to Serhiy Fedorenko, the Russian military launched strikes on Naftogaz’s production assets in the Kharkiv, Poltava, and Sumy regions from early morning and continued throughout most of the day.
The occupiers used various types of drones, including jet-powered ones, to carry out the attacks. Fires broke out at several facilities, and significant damage to production infrastructure was recorded.

Operations at the facilities had to be suspended
The company reported that due to the threat of further strikes, it is currently impossible to fully assess the extent of the damage to the equipment.
For safety reasons, production facilities have been temporarily shut down.
At the same time, thanks to safety measures taken in advance, all employees were in shelters and were unharmed.
Naftogaz explained the purpose of the Russian strikes
Serhiy Fedorenko stated that Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine’s gas production in an attempt to reduce Ukraine’s output, hinder the accumulation of gas reserves, and create problems during the upcoming heating season.
According to him, despite the constant attacks, the company will continue to build up gas reserves, restore damaged infrastructure, and fulfill agreements with international partners regarding preparations for winter.
This is not the first attack on gas infrastructure
Throughout July, Russian troops have repeatedly struck facilities belonging to the Naftogaz Group.
On July 6, a gas production facility in the Kharkiv region came under attack. After the first strike, a fire broke out at the facility, and one employee was injured. Subsequently, Russian troops attacked the same facility again, after which operations there also had to be suspended.
Earlier, on July 4 and 5, Russian forces attacked Naftogaz’s gas production assets in the Poltava, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. At that time, the company also reported fires, significant damage, and the temporary shutdown of certain production facilities.
Preparations for winter continue despite the attacks
Despite the new strikes, Naftogaz emphasizes that it continues to work on building up the necessary gas reserves, restoring damaged facilities, and ensuring the stable operation of the energy system.
The company stresses that the top priority remains the safety of its employees and ensuring Ukraine’s uninterrupted preparation for the new heating season.
