18 May 23:57

On the evening of May 18, Russian occupation forces attacked facilities belonging to the Naftogaz group in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Three ballistic missiles struck the company’s assets. This was reported by Serhiy Koretskyi, chairman of the board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to him, the attack took place amid almost continuous drone strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.

What Naftogaz reported

Serhiy Koretskyi stated that the Russian attack on the company’s facilities has been ongoing virtually non-stop.

“Drone attacks have been ongoing almost nonstop yesterday and today, and just now there was a strike by three ballistic missiles on assets in the Dnipropetrovsk region,” the Naftogaz CEO said.

According to him, the strike caused damage and destruction. There was no information on casualties at the time of the report.

Strike on Dnipropetrovsk region: what is known

The Dnipropetrovsk region was one of the main targets of the Russian combined attack during the night and throughout May 18. According to reports from Ukrainian authorities, Russia used missiles and attack drones against Dnipro and the region.

Residential buildings in the city were damaged, fires broke out, and there are civilian casualties.

According to the Air Force, on the night of May 18, Russia launched a combined strike on Ukraine, using ground-based missiles and hundreds of attack drones. The main targets of the attack were Dnipro and the Dnipropetrovsk region; the Odesa, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions were also under attack.

This is not the first attack on Naftogaz facilities

Russia regularly attacks Ukraine’s gas infrastructure. Just in early May, Russian troops launched massive strikes on Naftogaz facilities in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions.

On the night of May 4–5, Russian troops attacked Naftogaz facilities, and after the air raid siren stopped, they launched a second strike against State Emergency Service rescuers and company employees who had begun cleanup operations. Four gas workers were killed, and several others were hospitalized.

Naftogaz had already lost part of its production due to Russian strikes

Previous attacks on gas infrastructure had already impacted the company’s operations. Earlier, Serhiy Koretskyi reported that Naftogaz had lost part of its production due to Russian strikes.

According to him, since the beginning of 2026, Russian troops have carried out over a hundred massive combined attacks on the group’s facilities, primarily gas production sites.

This makes every new strike on gas infrastructure particularly critical for the country’s energy security.
