Public consultations have begun in the Lviv region regarding a project to build a bioenergy complex for the production of biomethane and electricity, initiated by Sokoliv Energy LLC. This was reported by the industry publication ExPro, citing the environmental impact assessment registry, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The project focuses on the construction of a complex for the production of biomethane, which will be integrated into gas distribution and transmission networks. The complex’s key performance indicators include:

  • Biogas production: 13.7 million cubic meters per year
  • Biomethane production: 3.84 million cubic meters per year
  • Electricity production: nearly 15 million kWh per year

The feedstock for this complex will consist of cattle manure, corn and rye silage, as well as grain waste.

The company plans to create 51 jobs, which will have a positive impact on the local economy. Additionally, the use of biomethane as a renewable alternative to natural gas will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decrease dependence on fossil fuels.

Who is behind the project?

Sokoliv Energy LLC was registered in Lviv in December 2025. The company’s founder is Gadz-Agro LLC, and among the ultimate beneficiaries are well-known businessmen Petro Gadz (50%) and Vitaliy Antonov (47.89%). The Gadz-Agro group of companies specializes in the production of seed material and the cultivation of fruits and berries, with a land bank of 32,000 hectares in the Ternopil region.

Biomethane is a renewable alternative to natural gas, produced through the fermentation of organic matter, making it a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional energy sources.

Several biomethane plants are already operating in Ukraine, including a new plant launched by the “Teofipol Energy Company.”

The government has approved a program to develop biomethane production through 2035, aimed at transforming Ukraine into a major producer and exporter of biogas to the European Union.
