Russia struck ports in the Odesa region and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities overnight: what is known

On the night of May 13–14, the Russian army launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine. The attack targeted the capital and dozens of regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, and other regions. Russia targeted critical infrastructure, port facilities in the Odesa region, and the infrastructure of Ukrzaliznytsia. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russians used 56 missiles and 675 UAVs. The main target of the attack was Kyiv. Air defense forces intercepted 41 missiles and 652 drones of various types.
Which regions were targeted
According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Kyiv and dozens of other regions of Ukraine were targeted by the Russian attack. Specifically, these include:
- Kyiv Oblast;
- Kharkiv Oblast;
- Odesa region;
- Poltava Oblast;
- Zaporizhzhia;
- other regions.
The Deputy Prime Minister reported that the enemy struck critical infrastructure, ports in the Odesa region, and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities. Rescue workers, medical personnel, specialized emergency services, and utility workers have been on the scene since the first moments of the strikes.
The main target was Kyiv
According to the Air Force, the main target of the Russian strike was Kyiv. Fires and destruction have been reported in various districts of the capital. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
Oleksiy Kuleba reported that one person was killed in Kyiv as a result of the attack, and more than 30 others were wounded.
In the Darnytskyi district, cleanup efforts are underway ; a high-rise building has been destroyed there , and people may be trapped under the rubble.





How many missiles and drones did Russia use?
The Air Force reported that as of 6:00 p.m. on May 13, the Russian army had attacked Ukraine with 731 aerial attack vehicles. A total of 56 missiles and 675 UAVs were recorded.
Among them:
- 3 Kh-47 “Kinzhal” aeroballistic missiles;
- 18 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles;
- 35 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 675 strike UAVs and decoy drones of various types.
The missiles were launched from Russian territory, specifically from areas in the Lipetsk, Bryansk, Kursk, and Vologda regions.
The drones flew from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from the temporarily occupied Crimea.

How the air defense system performed
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data as of 08:00, Ukrainian air defense neutralized 693 aerial targets — 41 missiles and 652 drones.
In particular, the following were destroyed or neutralized:
- 29 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 12 Iskander-M / S-400 ballistic missiles;
- 652 UAVs of various types.
At the same time, 15 missiles and 23 attack UAVs were recorded hitting 24 locations, and debris from downed drones was found at 18 locations.
Ports in the Odesa region and “Ukrzaliznytsia” were targeted
Oleksiy Kuleba reported that the Russians attacked not only residential areas and critical infrastructure, but also port infrastructure in the Odesa region and Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.
This is a continuation of Russia’s systematic tactic: striking transport, logistics, and energy infrastructure to disrupt the economy, exports, transportation, and the country’s recovery.
Despite the attacks, relevant services are working at the sites of the strikes, and efforts to mitigate the consequences and assess the damage are ongoing.
