The U.S. and Israel Postponed Strikes on Iran to Secure a Deal — Trump

The U.S. and Israel will temporarily refrain from launching new strikes against Iran at the request of Tehran and other countries in the region, U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social on Sunday, August 2, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to Trump, the U.S. was prepared to launch massive strikes.
“However, Iran and other countries in the Middle East asked us to refrain from striking, as the main parameters of the agreement had been agreed upon,” the U.S. president wrote.
The agreement, as Trump demands, must include “the immediate and complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the elimination of the nuclear threat posed by Iran.”
“In light of this request, and acting in the best interests of the entire world, as well as to preserve a successful and prosperous Iran, I have agreed to call off the strike—provided that we are able to quickly reach an agreement. Israel shares this position,” Trump wrote.
Trump Has Already Ordered New Strikes
At the end of the week, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources, that Donald Trump had ordered a new series of strikes designed to force Tehran to lay down its arms. At the same time, any progress in diplomacy could convince Trump to call off the attacks and return to negotiations, the WSJ’s sources said. According to them, the president might simply change his mind.
CBS News reports that the U.S. and Israel were planning joint strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, which could have lasted all weekend. The targets would likely have been oil refineries and power plants.
