The U.S. has imposed sanctions on those who assisted Iran in the production of “Shaheds”
9 May 07:42
The United States has imposed new sanctions against a network of individuals and entities that, according to the U.S. Treasury Department, helped Iran obtain weapons, raw materials, and components for the production of Shahed drones and ballistic missiles. Ten individuals and companies linked to Belarus, China, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates have been added to the blacklist. This was reported by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Who is affected by the new U.S. sanctions
Sanctions have been imposed on 10 individuals and entities that, according to Washington, have supported Iran’s military sector.
These include companies and individuals linked to various regions of the world, specifically:
- Belarus;
- China;
- Thailand;
- the United Arab Emirates.
According to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, these individuals and entities helped Iran procure or obtain materials necessary for the production of weapons, specifically Shahed-series attack drones.
Why this matters for Ukraine
Russia has been using Shahed-type drones on a massive scale to attack Ukraine since 2022. These drones have become one of the key tools of aerial terror against Ukrainian cities, energy infrastructure, and civilian targets.
The U.S. sanctions are directed not only against Iran as a manufacturer of such drones, but also against international supply chains that help sustain the production of drones and missiles.
In fact, Washington is trying to make it harder for Iran to access materials, technologies, and financial channels that could be used in military production.

What the U.S. Treasury Department said
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Washington will continue to target those who help Iran supply weapons for attacks against U.S. forces and allies.
According to him, under President Donald Trump’s leadership, the U.S. continues to ensure America’s security and put pressure on foreign networks that support Iran’s military sector.
The U.S. Treasury Department also emphasizes that the sanctions campaign aims to limit Iran’s ability to produce drones, missiles, and other types of weapons.
What the sanctions mean
Being placed on the U.S. sanctions list means that the assets of sanctioned individuals and companies are frozen if they are under U.S. jurisdiction.
In addition, U.S. citizens and companies are prohibited from doing business with them. Such restrictions also pose risks to foreign banks and companies that may cooperate with sanctioned entities.
The U.S. is stepping up pressure on Iran’s defense industry
The current decision is part of a broader U.S. sanctions campaign against Iran’s missile and drone programs. Previously, the U.S. Treasury Department had already imposed restrictions on networks that helped Iran obtain components for drones and missiles.
Washington claims that Iran is increasingly relying on Shahed-series strike drones for attacks against the U.S., its allies, and energy infrastructure targets in the region.
