U.S. President Trump has suggested extending the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump hasnot ruled out the possibility that the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia could continue even after May 11. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a post by Rapid Response 47 on the social media platform X.

During a conversation with journalists, Trump was asked whether he expects the three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia that he announced to last longer than that period, to which the US leader replied:

“Maybe. That would be good. I would like it to stop. Russia and Ukraine is the worst thing that has happened since World War II in terms of human casualties. 25,000 young soldiers every month. It’s madness. So it’s entirely possible,” Trump said.

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

As a reminder, earlier this week, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a ceasefire with Ukraine on May 8 and 9. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for not waiting until that date and for a “silence” regime to begin on the night of the 6th.

Russia, for its part, violated the ceasefire by attacking several Ukrainian cities, prompting Kyiv to respond in kind on the night of May 8. Among the targets were at least Moscow, Yaroslavl, Rostov, and others.

On the evening of May 8 (Kyiv time), U.S. President Donald Trump stated that there would be a three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia—on the 9th, 10th, and 11th—and that a prisoner exchange would take place.

Following this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the announcement regarding the prisoner exchange and issued a decree excluding Red Square in Moscow from Ukraine’s targets during the parade. As for other regions, Kyiv will respond in kind—if Russia violates the ceasefire, Ukraine will do the same.
