Cucumber prices in Ukraine rise for the second month in a row: what affects the market

Prices for greenhouse cucumbers continue to grow rapidly in Ukraine for the fifth week in a row, according to analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to market players, another rise in price provokes a shortage of greenhouse cucumbers, as the supply of these products at local plants is very limited. At the same time, demand in this segment remains quite high.
Under the current circumstances, producers have been able to further increase selling prices for their existing products. By the end of this week , they were already shipping cucumbers at 75-90 UAH/kg ($1.80-2.16/kg), which is on average 15% more expensive than 7 days ago.
It is worth noting that most importers are currently preparing to start massive purchases of greenhouse vegetables in Turkey, citing a significant reduction in supply from Ukrainian farms. It is worth noting that Ukraine usually starts buying cucumbers on the foreign market in the second half of October, when the supply of locally produced products is sharply reduced. At the same time, the country usually imports the largest volumes of this product between December and February.
It is worth adding that today greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are already offered for sale at an average price 15% higher than in the same period last year. At the same time, market operators do not rule out that greenhouse plants will continue to try to raise prices for their products if the current sales rates are maintained.
