Onion prices in Ukraine continue to rise: the main reasons
16 May 08:18
After a brief period of stability in Ukraine’s onion market, prices for this vegetable have begun to rise again, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to market participants, the price increase in this segment is linked to a significant reduction in local producers’ stocks of the 2025 harvest. At the same time, trading activity in the market has increased slightly, which is also contributing to the rise in prices for this product.
As of today, farmers are offering onions for sale at 5–10 UAH/kg ($0.11–0.23/kg), which is on average 19% more expensive than at the end of last week. At the same time, they note that they are currently unable to raise prices significantly, as buyers are increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of the products offered.
It should be noted that onions in Ukraine are currently being sold at an average price 68% lower than in mid-May of last year. At the same time, producers are not confident that they will be able to continue raising prices for this product, as the quality of vegetables in storage continues to deteriorate rapidly.
