Prices for tours to Turkey have more than doubled

The escalating situation in the Middle East and the new wave of tensions surrounding Iran are already affecting not only global energy markets but also the tourism industry. Due to risks to air travel, rising jet fuel prices, and changes in logistics routes, airlines have begun raising fuel surcharges, while tour operators are revising prices for popular vacation destinations. This has had the greatest impact on tours to Turkey and Egypt, which traditionally remain among the most popular destinations for Ukrainians.
Against this backdrop, the cost of overseas vacations for Ukrainians in 2026 rose by 50–60% to 150–200% depending on the destination, and the trip itself became at least 15 hours longer due to the need to travel to airports abroad.
This was reported in an exclusive comment to
According to him, following the closure of Ukrainian airports, Ukrainians are forced to spend significantly more time and money just on the journey to the departure point.
“We’re adding another 15 hours to our travel time. Leaving Kyiv and getting to Chisinau takes about 12 hours, plus you have to arrive at the airport three hours before the flight,” explained Volodymyr Pauk.
According to the tour operator, vacations in Turkey have become the most expensive. Before the full-scale war, a week-long tour to a high-quality five-star hotel for two cost about $1,100–$1,200, but now a similar vacation costs as much as $2,800.
“If we look at Turkey, we’re talking about a 150–200% price increase. Before the war, we flew out of Boryspil, and a tour for two cost about $1,200. Now that same hotel costs $2,800,” Pauk noted.
In addition to the tour itself, tourists are forced to pay extra for transfers to airports in Moldova, Poland, or Romania, which further increases the total budget for the trip.
Prices for vacations in Egypt have risen less, but still significantly. Pauk says the price increase amounts to approximately 50–60% in currency terms. According to him, Ukrainian tourists are increasingly facing additional surcharges even after booking a tour.
Tourists are now being hit with fuel surcharges en masse
Fuel surcharges have become a separate factor driving up costs, as tour operators and airlines have started adding them even a few days before departure.
“Four days before our departure to Egypt, we received a letter about an additional charge of $60 per person due to the rise in jet fuel prices. For a family of two adults and a child, that’s an extra $180,” Pauk said.
According to him, a similar situation is observed with bus and air tours to Bulgaria, where tourists are charged an additional 15 euros per person.
Exchange rates also affect tour prices
The tour operator emphasized that exchange rates also significantly affect prices. Even if a tourist books a trip in advance and pays only a portion of the total amount, the final payment is still calculated at the current exchange rate at the time of the balance due.
“If a person paid 30% for an early booking, the remaining 70% will still be calculated at the exchange rate at the time of the final payment. Therefore, exchange rates directly affect the final cost of the tour,” he explained.
And due to the significant increase in the cost of overseas vacations, most Ukrainians today are choosing more budget-friendly travel options.
“After all, the budget segment is currently dominant. Although there is demand for the Maldives, Mallorca, or the Dominican Republic, most people are looking for cheaper vacation options,” says Volodymyr Pauk.
