The threat of fuel shortages is growing in Russia – the Kremlin is calling an emergency meeting

Due to declining profitability of oil refineries and logistical difficulties, the Russian domestic market is experiencing a sharp drop in fuel supplies.
The Kremlin is urgently convening a meeting to discuss the problem, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine reports , "Komersant Ukrainian".
The threat of a shortage is especially critical during the sowing campaign. The crisis was caused by falling world oil prices, sanctions, Ukraine’s attacks, and an increase in domestic tariffs and taxes.
In particular, tariffs for oil pumping have increased (9.9%), excise taxes on gasoline and diesel have been raised, and the amount of state compensation to producers has decreased by more than 2.5 times – from $1.9 billion in January to $780 million in April.
The situation is also affected by a shortage of rolling stock and a decrease in the priority of fuel transportation by rail, which transports more than 60% of oil products.
The NWRU emphasizes that the fuel crisis threatens to destabilize the Russian economy. Industry, the agricultural sector and logistics may find themselves in a “fuel famine”, which will cause inflation and social discontent. Some refineries are already reducing production, and if the current trend continues, they may temporarily or completely shut down.
Intelligence warns that the energy crisis in Russia is not a hypothesis, but a reality that is gaining momentum and could be the most serious blow to the oil and gas sector since the collapse of the USSR.
