Ukrainians Have Drastically Cut Back on Purchases of Chinese Cars — Which Models Remain the Most Popular?

Demand for Chinese-made passenger cars in Ukraine continues to decline. In the first half of 2026, Ukrainians purchased 5,891 passenger cars imported from China, which is 19% less than during the same period last year. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing data from Ukravtoprom.
According to the Ukravtoprom association, 5,891 Chinese-made passenger cars were added to Ukraine’s vehicle fleet between January and June 2026.
The sales breakdown is as follows:
- 4,932 new cars—a 17% decrease compared to the first half of 2025;
- 959 used cars—a 29% decline.
Thus, a downward trend is observed in both the new car market and among used cars imported from China.

Which Chinese cars did Ukrainians buy most often?
Despite the decline in sales, Chinese brands remain major players in the Ukrainian auto market, especially in the electric vehicle segment.
By engine type, the purchased cars were distributed as follows:
- electric vehicles — 52%;
- hybrids — 25%;
- gasoline cars — 19%;
- diesel cars — 4%.
By comparison, in the first half of 2025, electric vehicles accounted for 85% of Chinese cars, indicating a significant shift in demand patterns.
The Most Popular New Chinese Cars
According to Ukravtoprom, the top-selling new Chinese-made cars were:
- BYD Sea Lion 06 — 491 vehicles.
- BYD Leopard 3 — 421 vehicles.
- BYD Song L — 263 vehicles.
- Zeekr 001 — 229 cars.
- Chery Tiggo 4 — 211 vehicles.
Three spots in the top five are held by models from BYD, which remains one of the most successful Chinese automakers on the Ukrainian market.
The Most Popular Used Cars from China
Among imported used cars, the following were in the highest demand:
- BYD Song L — 95 cars.
- Buick Envision — 76 cars.
- BYD Song Plus — 56 cars.
- BYD Sea Lion 05 — 46 cars.
- Toyota Corolla Cross — 44 cars.
