Ukrainian sabre fencers win silver at World Cup

The Ukrainian sabre team won silver at the World Cup in Athens. This is reported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Kommersant Ukrainian reports

The team consisted of Olga Harlan, Alina Komashchuk, Yulia Bakastova and Olena Kravatska in Athens.

On the way to the final, the Ukrainian team defeated China (45:30), Hungary (45:31) and Bulgaria (45:34). Only in the gold medal match did our fencers lose to the French with a score of 30:45.

The Ukrainian fencers came to the award ceremony wearing black armbands. This is a sign of mourning for the victims of the Russian drone strike on an Odesa high-rise building.

This silver medal has increased the chances of Ukrainian women to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games: before the last stage, the Ukrainian team will have 281 points and will significantly outperform their main rivals from Italy.

It should be noted that Ukrainian fencer Olha Harlan won the World Cup in Peru.
