The Ukrainian auto market is changing: electric cars and crossovers top the import charts

Ukrainians are increasingly opting for relatively new used cars from abroad. In April, 4,800 passenger cars less than five years old were imported into Ukraine. Electric cars and crossovers topped the import list, with the Tesla Model Y leading the way among specific models. This was reported by Ukravtoprom, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
How many used cars were imported into Ukraine
In April, 19,600 used passenger cars imported from abroad were added to Ukraine’s vehicle fleet.
Of this number, 4,800 cars were less than 5 years old.
In other words, nearly one in four imported used cars was relatively new.
What cars do Ukrainians choose
Gasoline-powered cars traditionally account for the largest share of the segment of imported passenger cars under 5 years old.
The import breakdown is as follows:

Despite the dominance of gasoline-powered cars, the share of electric vehicles is already quite significant. One in four cars in this segment is an electric vehicle.
Electric cars are gaining ground
One of the main trends in the Ukrainian auto market has been the growing demand for electric vehicles.
Tesla holds two spots in the top of the most popular models:
- Tesla Model Y — first place;
- Tesla Model 3 — fifth place.
This indicates that Ukrainians are increasingly viewing electric cars as a viable alternative to gasoline and diesel vehicles, especially among cars less than five years old.
Crossovers remain the favorites
Another clear trend is the popularity of crossovers.
The top five most popular imported used cars under 5 years old include several SUV models:
- Tesla Model Y;
- Mazda CX-5;
- Nissan Rogue;
- Volkswagen Tiguan.
These cars appeal to Ukrainians for their ground clearance, comfort, spaciousness, and versatility for city driving, highways, and rough roads.
