McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd., the foreign-invested enterprise that operates the McDonald’s fast-food restaurant chain in Ukraine, plans to reopen its location in Lukyanivka, Kyiv. The restaurant in question is located at 3 Yuri Illenko Street—the first McDonald’s in Ukraine, which opened on May 24, 1997. This was reported to Interfax-Ukraine by the company’s press service, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The company stated that it is currently assessing the extent of the damage and plans to resume operations as soon as possible.
What McDonald’s is saying
The company’s press service noted that following the damage to the restaurant, the team is first assessing the condition of the building and the extent of the damage.
“We are currently assessing the extent of the damage and plan to resume operations as soon as possible. The most important thing is that all our employees were in shelters and no one was injured,” McDonald’s said.
The restaurant in Lukyanivka holds special significance for the chain: it was here in 1997 that McDonald’s history in Ukraine began.
The First McDonald’s in Ukraine
The restaurant in Lukyanivka, located at 3 Yuri Illenko Street, is the first McDonald’s restaurant in Ukraine. On the company’s official website, it is listed as Restaurant No. 1 “Lukyanivska.”
The restaurant operated in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi District near a major transportation hub—the Lukianivska Metro Station and Lukianivska Square.
Since 2022, this establishment has been damaged several times as a result of Russian attacks on Kyiv.

What Happened in Lukyanivka
On the night of May 24, 2026, during a Russian attack on Kyiv, Lukyanivska Square sustained significant damage.
Retail infrastructure was damaged and destroyed, particularly in the area of the “Kvadrat” shopping center and Lukyanivsky Market. Damage to a McDonald’s sign near the site of the fire was also reported.
Despite this, the company emphasizes that the most important thing is that the employees were safe.
How many McDonald’s restaurants are operating in Ukraine
Currently, McDonald’s in Ukraine provides jobs for nearly 11,000 Ukrainians.
The chain comprises 139 restaurants, of which 124 are currently operating in 42 locations.
After returning to the Ukrainian market in 2022, McDonald’s gradually resumed operations at its restaurants.
The company launched a phased plan to reopen some of its locations in Kyiv and western Ukraine following a forced hiatus at the start of the full-scale war.
McDonald’s Financial Performance in Ukraine
According to analytical systems and industry publications, McDonald’s Ukraine significantly improved its financial performance in 2025.
The company’s revenue for 2025 amounted to 21.3 billion UAH, which is 26.6% more than the previous year. Net profit grew by 21.3% to 1.567 billion UAH.
In 2025, the company also paid UAH 3.5 billion in taxes to the Ukrainian budget and opened 12 restaurants.
McDonald’s remains one of the leaders in the restaurant market
According to Interfax-Ukraine, citing Opendatabot, McDonald’s accounted for over 66% of the revenue of the top ten companies in the hospitality industry in 2025. The combined revenue of the leading companies in the restaurant and hotel sector amounted to UAH 32.14 billion.
This confirms that McDonald’s remains one of the largest players in Ukraine’s restaurant market even amid the war.
Who owns McDonald’s Ukraine
The owner of the foreign investment enterprise “McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd.” is listed as MCD Europe Limited, registered in London, United Kingdom.
This company owns 100% of the Ukrainian division of McDonald’s.
