11 August 2025 15:33
July 2025 demonstrated a steady interest of Ukrainian motorists in eco-friendly transportation. Experts from the Institute for Automotive Market Research analyzed two key areas of the used electric car market: imports of cars from abroad and domestic trade. As it turned out, Tesla remains the undisputed favorite of Ukrainians, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Imports dominate the market
The most interesting trend of the month was that more than half of all electric vehicles on the Ukrainian market are newly imported cars. To be more precise, 53% of total sales are imports, which exceeds even sales of new cars and domestic resales combined.
In July, 5154 electric passenger cars of the BEV category entered Ukraine. This indicates that the Ukrainian car fleet is being actively replenished with green vehicles.
Tesla maintains its undisputed leadership
Among the brands, American Tesla remains the undisputed favorite of Ukrainians. Last month, 1545 electric cars of this brand were imported into the country. Tesla’s popularity is due to a combination of a prestigious image, advanced technology, and a large number of offers at international auctions.
The second position was taken by Japanese Nissan with 570 cars. This brand attracts buyers with affordable prices and reliability, especially the Leaf model.
The third and fourth places were taken by South Korean brands KIA (422 cars) and Hyundai (418 cars), which offer modern design and good driving range even in budget versions.
Crossovers are in the top of popularity
The Tesla Model Y is the most popular – in July, Ukrainians purchased 711 of these crossovers. The model attracts with its versatility, large interior, and solid range.
Tesla Model 3 took second place with 557 vehicles. This sedan offers similar technologies, but in a sportier and more compact body.
The Nissan Leaf (502 cars) rounds out the top three, a car that many experts consider to be the ideal “first electric car” due to its ease of use and affordability.
It is also worth noting the growing popularity of KIA Niro (254 cars), which is gradually gaining favor among Ukrainian drivers due to its optimal price-quality ratio.

Fresh cars on the market
A pleasant feature of the electric vehicle segment is its relative “youth”. The average age of electric cars imported in July was only 4.8 years, the best indicator among all categories of used cars on the Ukrainian market.
Active trade within the country
The domestic resale market is also showing good results. In July, Ukrainians sold 3,010 used electric vehicles to each other, accounting for 31% of the total turnover in this segment.
Tesla is once again in the lead with 782 cars, confirming its popularity not only among importers but also among those who have already used electric cars in Ukraine.
Nissan took the second place (559 cars), mainly thanks to the Leaf model, which has proven its reputation as a reliable workhorse of the electric car market.
The third place of Volkswagen (359 cars) is interesting – the German brand is gradually strengthening its position thanks to the e-Golf and ID models, as well as the general commitment of Ukrainians to this brand.
Nissan Leaf is the king of the aftermarket
In the domestic market, Nissan Leaf demonstrates absolute dominance with 523 cars sold. This model retains the status of the most popular electric car in Ukraine due to its ease of maintenance and affordable spare parts.
Tesla Model 3 (337 cars) and Model Y (224 cars) took second and third place, respectively, confirming the strong position of the American brand in all segments.
Electric cars are the freshest on the market
The electric car segment remains the youngest on the secondary market. The average age of electric cars resold in July was only 6 years, which is significantly less than the overall average age of the Ukrainian used car market – almost 16 years.
These figures show that electric vehicles are gradually becoming commonplace on Ukrainian roads, and drivers are increasingly trusting this technology both in daily use and long-term operation.
