Power outages have been reported in 11 regions and Kyiv following a massive attack by Russia

14 May 11:50

Power outages were reported in several regions of Ukraine and in Kyiv on the morning of May 14 following a massive Russian missile and drone attack on critical infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector. Emergency repair work is already underway in regions where the security situation allows it. This was reported by NPC “Ukrenergo,” according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Where there is no power following the Russian attack

According to Ukrenergo, over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out a massive missile and drone attack on critical infrastructure. As a result, as of the morning of May 14, power outages have been reported in Kyiv and 11 regions of Ukraine.

Power outages have been reported in:

  • Poltava region;
  • Kharkiv region;
  • Sumy region;
  • Donetsk region;
  • Zaporizhzhia Oblast;
  • Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
  • Lviv Oblast;
  • Volyn Oblast;
  • Khmelnytskyi Oblast;
  • Chernihiv Oblast;
  • Kyiv Oblast;
  • the city of Kyiv.

Power companies are already working on restoration

Ukrenergo reported that emergency repair work in each of these regions began as soon as the security situation allowed. This involves addressing the damage caused by strikes on critical infrastructure and restoring power to consumers.

In such cases, the time it takes to restore power may vary depending on the extent of the damage, repair crews’ access to the sites, and the risk of further airstrikes.

Some communities lost power due to severe weather

In addition to the consequences of the Russian attack, severe weather caused power supply problems in some regions.

According to Ukrenergo, more than 50 settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions were completely or partially without power due to thunderstorms and strong winds.

Repair crews from the regional power companies are already working to restore the damaged power lines.

What about electricity consumption

Despite the challenging situation in the power grid, electricity consumption is trending downward. As of 9:30 a.m., consumption was 5.1% lower than at the same time the previous day.

Ukrenergo attributes this to clear weather in most regions of Ukraine. Under such conditions, residential solar power plants operate more actively, reducing the overall load on the power grid.

When is the best time to use high-power electrical appliances

Given the weather conditions, Ukrenergo advises Ukrainians to shift their active use of electrical appliances to daytime hours—from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

At the same time, during the evening peak consumption hours, the company asks that electricity be used sparingly.

“Please limit the use of high-power electrical appliances in the evening hours and do not turn on several such appliances at the same time from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM,” Ukrenergo urged.
