Once the Ukrainian energy market is integrated into the European model, negative electricity prices may occur during certain hours of the day in Ukraine.
This was stated by Andriy Gerus, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, in an interview with the Verkhovna Rada press service, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"
Responding to a question about the record number of hours with negative electricity prices in EU countries, the parliamentarian noted that similar phenomena are possible in Ukraine as well.

“For example, on Christmas or Easter in Ukraine, this is also possible for non-residential consumers,” Gerus said.
In Europe, negative prices occur during specific hours. For example, on weekends in April and May, when plants and factories are not operating, air conditioners are not yet turned on, and it is sunny and around 20 °C outside.
According to him, negative prices can occur during periods of low consumption and high electricity production from solar power plants.
The committee chair added that the emergence of negative prices will help lower the average cost of electricity over a 24-hour period. At the same time, the market was previously limited by minimum price caps, which prevented prices from dropping to zero or going into negative territory.
