Deposits by individuals and sole proprietors have increased by tens of billions: how much is currently in the banks

In the first quarter of 2026, Ukrainians and individual entrepreneurs increased the amount of funds in their bank accounts by 29.4 billion hryvnias. As of April 1, 2026, the total volume of deposits held by individuals and sole proprietors in Ukrainian banks reached 1,647.2 billion hryvnias. These figures were released by the Deposit Guarantee Fund, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
How much money do Ukrainians keep in banks?
The Deposit Guarantee Fund reports that over the past 12 months, the amount of citizens’ deposits has grown even more significantly—by 254.4 billion UAH. In other words, the population’s bank savings continue to grow both on a quarterly and annual basis.
Of the total amount of deposits as of April 1, 2026:
- UAH 1,073.4 billion is in deposits in the national currency;
- UAH 573.8 billion — to deposits in foreign currency.

Despite overall quarterly growth, trends varied by currency in March.
According to the Deposit Guarantee Fund, the volume of hryvnia deposits decreased by 9.7 billion UAH in March, while foreign currency deposits, on the contrary, increased by 5.8 billion UAH.
How much money do sole proprietors keep in banks?
A significant portion of bank funds is held by individual entrepreneurs.
As of April 1, 2026, sole proprietors held UAH 189.5 billion in their accounts, accounting for 11.5% of total deposits.
At the same time, their share in the depositor structure was 3.2%.
The Deposit Guarantee Fund separately notes that funds held by sole proprietors, like deposits held by ordinary citizens, are also covered by the Fund’s guarantees.
Which deposits are the most common
In terms of depositor structure, the largest share consists of small amounts. The Deposit Guarantee Fund reports that deposits ranging from 10,000 to 200,000 UAH account for 57.39% of all depositors but only 26.02% of the total deposit amount.

Which deposits currently dominate—term deposits or demand deposits
As of April 1, 2026, demand deposits dominate the deposit structure—their share is 70.42%. The share of time deposits is 29.58%.

Which banks hold the most money
The largest share of deposits from individuals is concentrated in banks with state ownership—60.04%.
Banks belonging to foreign banking groups account for 17.79%, and privately owned banks account for 22.17%. This means that state-owned banks remain the primary destination for the public’s savings.

What guarantees apply to depositors
The Deposit Guarantee Fund reminds that during martial law and for three months after its lifting, deposits of individuals and sole proprietors in Ukrainian banks are protected by a 100% guarantee.
After this period ends, the maximum guaranteed reimbursement amount will be 600,000 UAH.
As of April 1, 2026, all banks in Ukraine are members of the Fund, and there were 60 banks listed in the DGF register.
