24 April 12:46
The government will expand the “Affordable Medicines” program. Starting July 1, a significant number of medications for treating cardiovascular diseases—covering all active ingredients available in Ukraine—will be added to the list. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
As the official explained, these medications will be available free of charge or with a partial copayment via an electronic prescription.
“Cardiovascular diseases account for about 60% of deaths in Ukraine. Every year, over 800,000 people are diagnosed with ischemic heart disease, and nearly 50,000 suffer a heart attack. A significant portion of these cases can be prevented with regular treatment and monitoring. The ‘Affordable Medicines’ program is a key support tool,” Svyrydenko noted.
According to the prime minister, 6.18 million Ukrainians have already benefited from the program, and medications are available at 17,348 pharmacies. The program now includes 748 items, with the highest demand for medications for cardiovascular diseases.
“For many people, this is daily treatment, so it is important that it be accessible and free,” Svyrydenko wrote.

In the second half of the year, the program will include medications containing all active ingredients available in Ukraine that are necessary for outpatient treatment of such diseases in accordance with medical protocols.
“I have instructed the Ministry of Health to consult with the market and prepare a decision for the launch,” the official concluded.
As a reminder, The “Affordable Medicines” program in Ukraine allows patients to obtain medications for the treatment of chronic diseases free of charge or with a small copayment via an electronic prescription. The program covers cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, asthma, mental disorders, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, the need for immunosuppressants, as well as insulin.
How to use the program
To obtain medications, you must contact your family doctor, general practitioner, or pediatrician to get an electronic prescription (e-prescription), which is sent via SMS. Next, find a pharmacy with the “Affordable Medicines” sticker and provide the prescription number and confirmation code to the pharmacist. Some medications are provided free of charge, while others require a partial copayment.
