Wizz Air to introduce Starlink on board: when will satellite internet be available on planes?
9 June 07:54
Low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced that it will begin rolling out Starlink satellite internet on board its aircraft starting in 2027. The airline says it will become the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to offer this technology to passengers during flights. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a company statement.
Wizz Air noted that Starlink is expected to provide passengers with high-speed, low-latency internet regardless of route or destination. The company expects that its new-generation aircraft will be equipped with this system, and the connection will work from takeoff to landing.
What is known about the launch of Starlink on Wizz Air aircraft
Wizz Air announced that the rollout of Starlink across its fleet will begin in 2027. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement with SpaceX.
Reuters reports that the service will be installed across the entire fleet, while industry publications specify that new-generation aircraft will be the first to receive the equipment.
The company emphasizes that it wants to extend the principle of affordable travel to the in-flight connectivity segment.
Wizz Air Chief Commercial Officer Ian Malin stated that passengers should not have to choose between cheap tickets and high-quality internet on board.

What Starlink Will Offer Passengers
Starlink is a satellite internet service from SpaceX that operates via a network of low-Earth orbit satellites. For air travelers, this means a more stable connection, higher speeds, and lower latency than many traditional in-flight internet systems.
The service is designed to support streaming, browsing, messaging apps, and other online functions right during the flight.
SpaceX also stated that the system is designed to provide stable connectivity for passengers and crew throughout the entire flight.
Why this matters for Wizz Air
For Wizz Air, the launch of Starlink is an attempt to enhance its service in the ultra-low-cost airline segment, where additional services are typically minimal or charged separately. Reuters notes that the company is positioning itself as the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to offer this technology.
This decision stands out particularly against the backdrop that some other European low-cost carriers have previously been cautious about expensive in-flight internet systems.
