Yermak resigns and Zelensky announces reboot of the President’s Office (UPDATED)

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the head of his Office, Andriy Yermak, had written a letter of resignation. He announced this in a video message, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“The Office of the President of Ukraine will be rebooted. The head of the Office, Andriy Yermak, has written a letter of resignation,” Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that he wants “no one to have any questions to Ukraine” and announced the reboot of the Presidential Office.

He called this decision a necessary step to improve the team’s performance and avoid internal and external criticism.

Updated: Zelenskyy’s official decree on Yermak’s dismissal has been published on the Presidential Office’s website.

What is known about Andriy Yermak

Andriy Yermak has been heading the Presidential Office since February 2020. Prior to that, he worked in diplomatic and legal spheres, and was involved in negotiations with international partners.

Mr. Yermak was born on November 21, 1971, in Kyiv. He graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Institute of International Relations, with a degree in international law (1995).

He has been a member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC ) since February 12, 2020. Since February 24, 2022, he has been a member of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Staff.

Political and public career

Andriy Yermak’s career is closely linked to Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s team:

  • He is an Assistant to the President: From May 21, 2019 to February 11, 2020, he worked as an assistant to the President of Ukraine.
  • Head of the Prosecutor General’s Office: Appointed to his current position by Presidential decree on February 11, 2020.
  • Other positions:
    • Chairman of the Commission for State Awards and Heraldry (since 2020).
    • Head of the Presidium of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (since 2021).
    • Head of the Coordination Headquarters for Humanitarian and Social Issues (since 2022).

Legal and production activities

Before entering politics, Yermak worked for many years in the private sector and was engaged in the media business:

  • Legal practice: In 1997, he founded an international law firm specializing in the protection of intellectual property and copyright. His company, in particular, provided legal support to large media groups.
  • Film production: He is the founder of Garnet International Media Group and a member of the Ukrainian and European Film Academies. He has produced a number of Ukrainian films, including The Rule of Battle and the Ukrainian-Slovak film The Border.

In addition, Yermak participated in key negotiations on a peaceful settlement in Donbas and defense cooperation with allies.

His leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office was accompanied by both criticism and support from experts and politicians, in particular through negotiations and personnel policy.
