Starting August 1, the electricity transmission rate will increase: who will be affected by the price changes

The electricity transmission tariff will increase by a quarter starting August 1. This is stated in a decision by the NEURC, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
How much will the rate increase?
Starting August 1, 2026, the tariff for electricity transmission services will be 928.45 hryvnia per megawatt-hour, excluding VAT. This is 25 percent higher than the current rate.
A separate, lower tariff—563.26 hryvnia per megawatt-hour—has been established for “green” electrometallurgy enterprises.
The tariff structure includes a separate component for the fulfillment of special obligations. This component relates to increasing the share of electricity generated from alternative sources and will amount to 365.19 hryvnia per megawatt-hour.
The total volume of electricity transmission included in the calculation is 89.55 million megawatt-hours.
At the same time, the NEURC’s decision does not automatically mean higher electricity prices for residential customers. This refers to the tariff for electricity transmission via Ukrenergo’s main grids, which is paid by suppliers and large consumers. For residential consumers, the current electricity rate remains unchanged.

Why the tariff was revised
The NEURC cited several reasons for the revision:
- rising exchange rates, which increase the financial burden on Ukrenergo, particularly due to payments to “green” power generators in euros
- a decrease in the volume of electricity transmission
- the liberalization of price caps, which has increased the cost of purchasing electricity for the company’s needs
As early as July 7, the NEURC had already approved Ukrenergo’s tariff at the same level; however, a legislative conflict had to be resolved before final approval could be granted.
The problem lay in the wording of Law No. 4834-IX on market coupling. The law prohibited the inclusion of special obligations in Ukrenergo’s tariff, and this provision was supposed to take effect only on January 1, 2030.
Due to a technical error by the secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada’s Energy Committee, this detail was not included in the final provisions of the law.
Later, the Verkhovna Rada adopted amendments to the legislation—Bill No. 14067, which was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As a reminder, the Fund has proposed gradually raising gas and electricity rates starting next year, and is also insisting on the introduction of VAT for some sole proprietors and the elimination of tax exemptions on parcels.
