Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Vsevolod Knyazev commented on his detention at the Solotvyno checkpoint (Zakarpattia region). This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" writes with reference to Babel.

According to the former official, his documents were checked at the checkpoint and he was asked to go to the police station.

“After a thorough check of the documents, they contacted the NABU and found out that there were no claims against me. After that, I left the border guard department,” said Vsevolod Knyazev.

He added that he had gone to Zakarpattia to rest and plans to continue his leave, which he took “by order of the Supreme Court”.

The media outlet also clarified that the detention of Knyazev by border guards in Solotvyno was confirmed by law enforcement agencies. The information about his stay in Zakarpattia was passed to the TCC and the police.

What Vsevolod Knyazev’s lawyers say

Meanwhile, Ivan Starosta, a lawyer for the former head of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Knyazev, told Suspilne that his client had not been detained.

According to the lawyer, Vsevolod Knyazev’s documents were checked and the purpose of his visit to the border area was found out. Knyazev himself had come to Zakarpattia to improve his health in a sanatorium. After checking his documents, the border guards had no comments to make.

“They checked his documents and found out the purpose of his visit to the border area. After all the issues were clarified, the border guards had no comments on Vsevolod Knyazev,” Ivan Starosta commented on the situation.

Another lawyer of the former head of the Supreme Court, Volodymyr Klochkov, told why his client went to Zakarpattia.

“Vsevolod Knyazev said during the last court hearing that he wanted to go to improve his health. He even booked a room in a sanatorium. While he was on his way to the sanatorium, his documents were checked at the checkpoint and he was asked why he was going to the border area,” Klochkov said.

The lawyer explained that currently the border zone – a 30-kilometre buffer – has a special status, and when entering it, documents and the purpose of stay are carefully checked. After Vsevolod Knyazev provided all the explanations and a receipt for the sanatorium reservation, he was released.

Volodymyr Klochkov assured journalists that SAPO prosecutors and NABU detectives had no questions for Knyazev regarding this situation.
