11 July 19:03

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Bishop Avraam of Boryspil, the abbot of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. During the meeting, they discussed important issues concerning the holy site. Avraam reported this on the Lavra’s Telegram channel, according to [Komersant].

“I had the honor and opportunity to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank the Head of State for his constant attention to the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, for his openness to dialogue, and for his concern for the fate of one of Ukraine’s greatest holy sites,” the abbot noted.

According to Avraam, during the meeting they discussed in detail the consequences of the Russian attack on the Cathedral of the Dormition, the progress of its restoration, as well as the challenges currently facing the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

“I expressed special words of gratitude to the President for his personal oversight following the enemy strike on the Cathedral of the Dormition. It was precisely thanks to his attention and the state’s support that work could begin promptly to save the shrine, which is an invaluable spiritual heritage of the Ukrainian people,” he emphasized.

They also discussed plans for the future—both regarding the completion of the restoration of the Cathedral of the Dormition and the monastery’s future.

“I believe that only through joint efforts—rooted in mutual respect, love for our homeland, and responsibility toward future generations—will we preserve the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra as the living heart of Ukrainian Orthodoxy and the spiritual pillar of our people.

I offer my prayers for Ukraine, for our people, for all defenders, and for the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, that the Lord may strengthen him with wisdom, grant him strength in serving the state, and bless Ukraine with a just and long-awaited peace,” Avraam concluded.
