Due to unstable supplies: Strawberry prices rose in Ukraine at the end of the season

This week, Ukrainian strawberry producers managed to raise their selling prices, according to analysts at the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

Market participants cite unstable and limited supplies of this berry as the main reason for the price increase, which is linked to the end of the garden strawberry sales season in most regions of Ukraine.

According to the project’s daily monitoring data, since the beginning of this week alone, the price of strawberries at Ukrainian farms has risen by an average of 23%. Today, local growers are shipping strawberries to the fresh market at 100–180 UAH/kg ($2.25–4.04/kg), depending on the quality and volume of the shipment.

According to key market players, there are several reasons for the rise in strawberry prices. First and foremost, the supply of this berry on the market is rapidly shrinking, as many strawberry farms are wrapping up their sales season. At the same time, demand for strawberries—both in the fresh market and from processing companies—remains high, which is also driving price increases in this segment.

However, despite the price increase, the cost of strawberries on the Ukrainian market is currently still, on average, 17% lower than during the same period last year.
