Zelenskyy Met with Trump at the White House: What They Discussed

A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy concluded in Washington on Tuesday, July 28. The meeting took place without media representatives present; no press conference was held afterward. “Zelenskyy left the White House,” Reuters reported, adding that the Ukrainian president was inside for just over an hour, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Zelenskyy: We had a good meeting
Later, Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel that he had a “good meeting” with President Trump in the Oval Office.
“Thank you for everything we are doing together to protect the lives of Ukrainians and achieve peace. First and foremost, I expressed our condolences to President Trump on the death of Lindsey Graham. He was a true friend of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, he discussed with the U.S. president “the issue of licenses for the production of interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems, as well as some other ideas.” Zelenskyy also noted that the meeting covered diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine and ways to revitalize the diplomatic process.
“Our teams will work out the details of further cooperation. I am grateful to the United States for its unwavering support,” Zelenskyy said.
Top Priorities: Air Defense Systems and Strategic Cooperation
Earlier, when commenting on possible topics for discussion with the U.S. president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy called missile defense and Ukraine’s strategic cooperation with the United States “the number one priority.”
On the eve of Zelenskyy’s trip to the U.S., Reuters reported, citing sources, that the Ukrainian president intends to continue insisting on the need to supply Kyiv with air defense systems, which are so essential for Kyiv’s protection against Russian strikes. Another topic of discussion between the two leaders was expected to be the finalization of a drone deal between the two countries.
In a separate report, Reuters quoted a source as saying that officials from Ukraine and the U.S. discussed the possibility of proposing to Russia an “air ceasefire” as part of the next package of potential conditions for ending the war in Ukraine.
