Russia wants to take control of Odesa and reach the border with Romania and Moldova. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit in Odesa, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
He emphasized that Odesa is a target for Russia.
“Russia wants to destroy it, as it did with countless cities and villages in the occupied territories. Russian military plans point to this region – Odesa – and then to the border with Moldova and Romania,” the president said.
Zelensky added that Odesa region is “one of the main goals” of Russia to provoke chaos.
“We have seen this before in the Balkans, where Russia increased interethnic friction, carried out sabotage and even attempted coups,” the head of state said.
