Zelenskyy is set to meet with Merz, Macron, and Starmer today: the main topic of discussion

7 June 04:17

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London on the evening of Sunday, June 7. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.

According to the publication, the goal of the leaders of Germany, France, and the UK is to intensify efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. The parties plan to discuss the prospects for new negotiations with Russia.

Europe is preparing for possible negotiations with Russia

European countries assume that Russia will not be able to avoid negotiations indefinitely and that European states will participate in the process if it is resumed.

“A window for negotiations between the European side and Russia is slowly opening,” the publication quotes German government circles as saying.

The meeting in London is intended to help European allies prepare for such a development.

Zelenskyy’s Proposal to Putin

As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy published an open letter to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in which, among other things, he proposed ending the war and setting a “specific date” for their personal meeting. He also noted that other participants—Europe and the U.S.—could join the “bilateral track.”

In response to Zelenskyy’s letter, Putin said that for now he “sees no point” in their meeting. According to him, he had reviewed Zelenskyy’s letter and described it as containing “elements of rudeness” and as “creating obstacles to a possible meeting.” He stated that “hostilities will end someday, and they will end when Russia achieves its goals,” and addressed the Russian military with the call: “Get to work, brothers.”
