Tokens Worth a Million: The State Bureau of Investigation Purchases a Second Batch of Personal Tokens for Its Employees

The State Bureau of Investigations has announced a tender for the purchase of ID badges for its employees. The estimated cost of the purchase is 492,000 UAH, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing theProzorroportal.

The procurement was announced on February 2, and the deadline for submitting bids is February 10, 2026.

The SBI held a similar tender for the same amount in October of last year.

The sole participant and winner of that procurement was individual entrepreneur Oleksandr Mykhailovych Sopov. The amount of the contract concluded with him—based on the expected cost—has not changed by a single hryvnia.

The tender documentation specifies that the token must be made of oxidized brass in the shape of a heraldic shield with curved edges and a 2 mm wide raised border. The surface of the token must be polished, with a partial electroplated coating.

The token consists of three separate parts connected by pins:

  • the main shaped shield;
  • the central SBI emblem;
  • a raised laurel wreath.

“In the center of the badge is the DBR emblem, made of white metal, covered with a nickel coating, with blue enamel on the background.

The emblem resembles a stylized trident formed by three vertical silver lines on a blue field.

The emblem is surrounded by a raised laurel wreath, made using vacuum casting technology.

Above the emblem is a raised ribbon with the inscription “STATE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS,” embossed and filled with dark blue enamel.

“Below the emblem, on the lower ribbon, is the employee’s six-digit personal number, produced using an engraving method,” the procurement documents state.

As reported by [Komersant], Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a reboot of the SBI the day before. According to a number of experts, the reform of the agency “will not be limited to cosmetic changes and will most likely lead to the resignation of its current leadership.”
