Drone attack on Kharkiv: one woman killed, number of wounded rises to 11

On the afternoon of January 19, Russian troops once again attacked Kharkiv. The residential area of the Slobidskyi district came under fire—the occupiers used guided aerial bombs. There are fatalities and injuries, and significant damage to residential buildings has been reported, according to "Komersant Ukrainian" 

The attack was reported by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration , Oleg Synyegubov. According to them, the airstrikes hit private homes within the city limits.

Rescue workers from the State Emergency Service, medical personnel, and psychologists from the emergency services were on the scene providing assistance to affected residents.

As of 6:15 p.m., the death of one person—a 69-year-old woman—has been confirmed. The number of injured has risen to 11. Two of them were hospitalized, while the rest received medical care on site.

What is known about the damage

According to the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, the shelling damaged about 30 private homes, and one house was completely destroyed. Investigators and utility services are assessing the damage.

Earlier that same day, Russian forces launched a missile strike on a critical infrastructure facility in Kharkiv. According to preliminary estimates, the damage there is significant; details are being clarified.

According to the regional administration, over the course of just one week—from January 12 to 18—at least 30 settlements in the Kharkiv region came under Russian shelling. During this period, four people were killed and another 20 were wounded, including two children.

The Kupianskyi district suffered the most damage, along with the Bohodukhiv, Izium, and Chuhuiv districts. In Kharkiv and its suburbs, the shelling resulted in damage to energy facilities, residential buildings, sports and postal infrastructure, vehicles, and garages.
