Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk set a new career best at Wimbledon with her victory in the third round. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Suspilne. Sport.
Kostyuk advanced in the singles draw at Wimbledon 2026 after staging a comeback in the third round with a victory over “neutral” player Anna Blinkova.
Marta’s next opponent was Emma Navarro of the United States, a former world No. 8. The American had won all four of their previous head-to-head matches.
How did the match go?
- In the first set, the players traded games before Kostyuk took the lead and won four consecutive games, wrapping up the set in 32 minutes.
- In the second set, both players held their serves until the score was 4–4. In the ninth game, Navarro secured the decisive break, then soon served for the set and evened the match.
- In the third set, Kostyuk won the first three games and, with two love games, extended her lead to 6–1, closing out the match on her fourth match point after 1 hour and 44 minutes on the court.
- Kostyuk hit two aces compared to her opponent’s one. The Ukrainian recorded nine winners in the match against Navarro’s five and committed half as many unforced errors—five compared to the American’s 10.
Wimbledon. Round of 32
Emma Navarro (USA, 23) — Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine, 12) — 1:2 (2:6, 7:5, 1:6)
Kostyuk set a new personal best at a grass-court Grand Slam by advancing to the Round of 16. Her previous best at Wimbledon was reaching the third round in 2023 and 2024.
“This is an incredible place. I never in my life would have thought I’d make it to the fourth round here. This is new territory for me. The support and atmosphere are extraordinary,” Kostyuk said after her victory.
“I talked to my husband about how much I want to win the match, but first and foremost, I want to enjoy [tennis] 100%. I’ve been on the Tour for a very long time, and I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot of amazing moments because I was too focused on winning and achieving something. But tennis never stops: I’m playing well here, and the next tournament is coming up. I think I’ve found this formula for myself—that regardless of the result, I want to enjoy myself 100%,” the Ukrainian added.
Kostiuk will be playing in the second week of Wimbledon for the first time and has reached the later stages of her second consecutive Grand Slam—at the 2026 French Open, she played in a semifinal, a personal best.
“We have so many two-week tournaments now—I’ve probably already gained some experience: how to handle long tournaments, how to recover and relax. This helps my performance at the Grand Slams. I think the most important thing is to take it one day at a time. To conserve as much energy as possible each day,” Kostyuk concluded.
