European health authorities have identified flavored instant noodles as the likely source of a salmonellosis outbreak that has affected at least 106 people in 14 countries. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Euronews.
European authorities responsible for food safety and public health have reported an outbreak of salmonella infections linked to flavored instant noodles: 106 cases have been confirmed in 14 countries.
Most cases have been reported among children and young adults, and at least 49 people required hospitalization, according to the European Food Safety Authority and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
“Flavored noodle products are the most likely source of the ongoing outbreak, which has affected several countries; there is evidence linking the cases to products from the same brand,” the agencies stated.
According to European authorities, cases have been reported in Austria, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and Sweden.
The agencies added that the control measures taken, including the removal of products from sale and their recall in a number of countries, “significantly reduce the likelihood” of new cases of infection linked to the outbreak.

Epidemiological investigations have shown that the reported cases in Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, and Lithuania are linked to the consumption of flavored noodle products from a single brand.
The agencies did not name the manufacturer but noted that cases linked to Salmonella Stanley and other strains are associated with a Ukrainian manufacturer.
In a statement published last week, Reeva Foods reported the “presumed detection” of Salmonella Stanley in a specific batch of its instant noodles intended for the Baltic market and manufactured by Euro Food Service, a Ukrainian producer of Reeva products.
The company stated that it had initiated an internal investigation and recalled these batches. It added that it had taken steps, including independent laboratory testing, regulatory audits, environmental monitoring at the production site, and additional preventive measures.
“The safety of our consumers is our top priority,” Reeva stated. The company also reported that it is cooperating with authorities.
Symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, which typically last for several days.
Most patients recover within a week, but the infection can be severe in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
