As the publication notes, loose eggs have recently become noticeably cheaper—currently, large supermarket chains are selling them for an average of 3.42 UAH per egg (34.2 UAH per dozen), which is 0.15 UAH per egg (1.5 UAH per dozen) lower than in mid-June.
According to OBOZ.UA’s monitoring, major chains are selling loose eggs for 3.19–3.69 UAH per egg (31.9–36.9 UAH per dozen).

Why Egg Prices Are Constantly Changing
In general, according to Yulia Flerova, CEO of one of the egg-producing companies, sharp fluctuations in egg prices are always caused by a combination of several factors, as reported in the magazine “Nashe Ptakhivnytstvo.” She noted that these factors include:
- Seasonality.
In winter, egg production in households drops significantly. This creates a shortage in the market and drives prices up. At the same time, during periods of increased supply, prices can just as quickly adjust downward. In other words, when supply is high, eggs become cheaper.
- Production costs.
“Since feed accounts for 60–70% of the cost of egg production, any fluctuations in grain prices instantly affect the market. The same applies to energy, which is critical for uninterrupted production,” explained Flerova.
- Export activity.
The fact is that when foreign markets open up or become more active, part of the production is redirected toward exports. This can reduce domestic supply and put additional downward pressure on prices.
“The egg market is generally very sensitive and reacts quickly to any changes. The production cycle is short here, so even a slight imbalance between supply and demand can quickly turn into noticeable price fluctuations,” concluded Flerova.
