This year, unfavorable weather conditions have significantly affected the wild mushroom harvest in Europe. This has had a particularly noticeable effect on chanterelles: due to drought and abnormal heat in the Balkans—which are traditionally one of the main suppliers of chanterelles to the European market—there is a significant shortage of this product. As a result, European companies are actively seeking new partners and turning their attention to Ukraine, which has a favorable climate and abundant forest resources. Lisa Niklas, a representative of a German company, emphasizes that this year’s poor chanterelle harvest in the Balkan countries has significantly affected the balance of supply and demand in Europe. As a result, companies are forced to seek alternative sources of supply, and Ukrainian chanterelles are viewed as a high-quality and affordable alternative.
