In Poland, Dmytro Karchuk, the director of CEO Club Ukraine, was released after being detained under a European arrest warrant issued by Germany in connection with an alleged bicycle theft case. The German authorities withdrew the warrant, after which a Polish court ruled to release him.
Serhiy Haidachuk, founder and president of CEO Club Ukraine, reported this on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, Germany withdrew the European arrest warrant for Dmytro Karchuk, and a Polish court released him. Now, Haidachuk noted, nothing stands in the way of Karchuk’s return to Ukraine.
Ukrainian, Polish, and German lawyers, representatives of the Ukrainian consulate, and members of the CEO Club have been working on the case since July 28.
At the same time, Haidachuk emphasized that the case is not yet closed. The team plans to determine exactly which of Karchuk’s personal data the perpetrators may have used, how they gained access to it, and how this led to his detention in Poland.
According to the president of CEO Club Ukraine, the case involves a possible case of mistaken identity. In support of Karchuk, 55 letters of recommendation were also collected from entrepreneurs, politicians, intellectuals, and opinion leaders, and 11 people in Poland declared their willingness to personally vouch for him.
Haidachuk also thanked the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ukrainian Consulate in Lublin for their involvement in the case and for providing consular support to Karchuk.
The case concerns the theft of 171 electric bicycles. The defense’s position is that the detention may have resulted from mistaken identification or the unlawful use of the Ukrainian national’s personal data.
Legal teams in Ukraine, Poland, and Germany are working together on the case. After receiving the materials from the German proceedings, the attorneys plan to assess the grounds for issuing a European arrest warrant and determine further procedural steps.
